About Bambu Lab
Bambu Lab was founded in 2020 in Shenzhen, China, by Ye Tao and a team of engineers who had previously worked on DJI's consumer drone division, including the Mavic Pro. Rather than treating desktop 3D printing as a cheap-hardware problem, the founding team approached it the way they had approached drones — as a robotics and systems-integration problem, combining motion control, sensors, and software into one reliable machine.
After roughly two years of closed-door development, Bambu Lab launched its first printer, the X1 Carbon, in 2022, funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised over HK$55 million. The enclosed, high-speed CoreXY printer introduced automated calibration, LiDAR-based first-layer inspection, and the AMS (Automatic Material System) for multi-color and multi-material printing — features that were unusual for consumer machines at the time.
The company followed with the more affordable P1P and P1S, the beginner-friendly A1 Mini and A1, the enterprise-focused X1E, and the large-format, dual-nozzle H2D. Within just a few years of its first product launch, Bambu Lab grew into one of the largest consumer 3D printer brands in the world, known for print speed, reliability, and its integrated ecosystem of printers, materials, and software (Bambu Studio and Bambu Handy).
